An important objective I have set for myself is to earn an advanced certification in data analytics. In my current line of work, data is becoming increasingly vital, and having a formal qualification will help me handle complex technical tasks much more effectively. I am hoping to achieve this milestone by the end of next year. That gives me about twelve months to thoroughly prepare, which I think is a realistic timeframe considering my current workload. To reach this goal, I have already mapped out a few clear steps. Firstly, I need to dedicate at least an hour every evening after work to study the course material and complete practical exercises. Consistency is definitely key here. Secondly, I plan to build a personal portfolio of real-world projects so I can apply the theoretical knowledge I learn. Finally, I intend to connect with a senior colleague at my workplace who can offer mentorship and give me feedback on my progress. Achieving this goal is extremely important to me for several reasons. On a practical level, it will open up opportunities for promotion and allow me to take on bigger responsibilities at work. But more than that, it is about personal growth. Successfully passing a challenging exam will give me a huge sense of accomplishment and boost my confidence in my professional abilities. All in all, working towards this qualification gives me a clear sense of direction for the coming year.

Listing simple desires sounds basic; use academic collocations for higher bands.

Tips for a higher band

  • Use a mix of future forms like 'I am planning to' and 'I intend to' instead of repeating 'I will'.
  • Organize your steps logically using natural signposts like 'To begin with' or 'On top of that' instead of a monotonous list.
  • Explain the emotional or personal reasons behind your goal to demonstrate fluency when discussing abstract ideas.

Part 3 follow-up questions

After Part 2 the examiner may ask deeper questions on the same theme.

  • Why do some people set goals that are too difficult for them to achieve?
  • How have people's work goals changed compared to previous generations?
  • Do you think companies should help their employees achieve personal career goals?
